The barbacoa is tender and very juicy, quite possibly the best in town. You are able to get barbacoa from different parts of the animal. they also sell tortillas. the fixings are sold separately so it's best to have those ready at home.

Delicious barbacoa on fresh flour tortillas, kept simple just like they should be. The chicharrones were perfectly crunchy and not greasy. They are generous with the barbacoa and tacos are very filling, so be careful not to order too many!

Located off of Patton street a little bit north of downtown Houston is Gerardo’s. S/o to the home @richotoole for tweeting this place out bc it sure caught my attention. Parking is a dirt lot with everyone taking the mamalona out after church so good luck lol. We figured out the parking and walk in to the joint. It looks like an old warehouse and there’s some seating and an empty cooler with drinks. We get in line and it’s your classic weekend crowd (this place is open Fri Sat Sun). You got the old folk, the young (clearly hungover people) and the people in church clothes. We finally get to order and I don’t know if they speak English. Granted it’s been open since 1977 but why ever bother in English cuando se habla español. You can order by the taco or do it traditional Mexican style and order by the pound and you put it in the middle of the table. I would’ve done that but since I’ve never been here and I wasn’t sure what Bae wanted I just did tacos. Barbacoa Taco 8/10 - everything you’re looking for here. That tenderness, shreds easily, cheek meat. Cabeza Taco 8.4/10 - I always tell people that cow head tacos are the creme de la creme. If you see it, order it. This is banging. I understand why this has been open since 1977. This is Mexico in Houston and if you want some real food swing by. This isn’t a chips and salsa place. There isn’t “fajitas”. Big truss.

It's as close to an original barrio meat market from the early Northside of Houston. The barbacoa and cheek are amazing; I'll go on a limb and say they're the best in Houston! The owner is a wonderful, kind woman that always welcomes every customer with a warm greeting. It's a must-try for your weekend lounging, foodies!

Great mixto barbacoa that has big meaty chunks of lengua and cachete. We had a freshly served portion of it and it was deliciously moist and not too fatty. Pork tamales also pretty damn good and moist when we went at 11AM. Tasty green and picosa orange salsas and decent tortillas. Maybe best barbacoa and tamales I've had in Houston actually. It's in the hood a bit but not too bad. Will return.

The barbacoa and Carnitas at Gerardo's is good, moyejas meh... the real crime is the salsas (which cost $1 per little cup) as they don't have a lot of flavor. Also, the bottle sodas that cost 0.89 cents in the supermarket are $4.25. The tacos themselves are 0.75 cents above other taquerias around the area. I will not be going back, mostly because of the discrepancy of bottle soda prices.
